About [jmcz]

Hi there! I'm Juan Miguel Carmona Zavala, or jmcz for short. I'm a Full Stack Engineer with a passion for crafting elegant and efficient web solutions. Alongside my professional journey, I'm also pursuing a degree in Mathematics, which has greatly influenced my perspective and approach to problem-solving.

My Journey in Web Development

My first foray into the world of software development was a typing game that won a prize at a hackathon in 2013. However, it wasn't until 2018 that I officially joined the workforce, taking a leap of faith by dropping out of school. Determined to make my mark, I taught myself web development while working at a computer repair shop. In 2021, my efforts paid off when I landed my first full-time development position.

Notable Accomplishments

One of my most notable accomplishments was learning Swift and teaching a group of classmates to write and deliver an iOS app for the Denver Zoo. This app was designed to educate young children about animal conservation, and it was an incredibly rewarding experience to contribute to such a meaningful cause.

Areas of Specialization

Currently, I specialize in React for front-end development and Node.js for back-end development. While I may joke about not being able to get enough of JavaScript, I have also ventured into other technologies. I've written APIs in Go and briefly used PHP (WordPress) to set up websites for teachers and local businesses.

Passion for Mathematics and Documentation

Beyond coding, I have a deep love for mathematics, particularly its formality. This unique perspective allows me to approach problems with the belief that there is always a way to "code a solution." It's just a matter of putting the pieces in the right place and paying attention to the details. This mindset fills me with hope and joy for a better tomorrow.

I also have a nerdy fascination with documentation, especially of old software still in use. The fact that these docs have stood the test of time is a testament to their quality and relevance.

The Purpose of This Site

The main purpose of this site is for me to have fun and learn. It serves as an excuse to host a server and dive into the world of DevOps. I believe that the greatest form of enjoyment comes from learning something new or deepening my understanding of a subject. This site represents my transition from wading around the shore to swimming in the vast ocean of knowledge.

Feel free to explore my projects, read my blog, or reach out to me. I'm always excited to connect with fellow developers, mathematicians, and enthusiasts who share my passion for continuous learning and growth.
